Surah Al-Balad (Verses 11-20) - Simple English Translation

But he did not attempt the steep path.

And what will make you understand what the steep path is?

It is to free a slave,

Or to feed on a day of hunger,

An orphan who is near of kin,

Or a needy person in extreme poverty.

Then to be among those who believe, and who encourage each other to be patient, and encourage each other to be merciful.

These are the people of the right side (the successful ones).

But those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the people of the left side (the unsuccessful ones).

Over them will be a fire, closed in.

This translation aims to keep the meaning simple and clear for easy understanding.

Tafseer of the Verse: "Then be among those who believe, and who encourage each other to patience and encourage each other to mercy" (Surah Al-Balad, Ayah 17)

This verse highlights the noble qualities and actions that lead a person toward true success. Below is the explanation of its key aspects:

1. The Importance of Faith

Faith is mentioned first as the foundation of all righteous deeds.

It refers to having sincere belief in Allah, His Messenger (PBUH), and the Day of Judgment.

The verse emphasizes that without faith, no good deed can lead to true salvation.

2. Encouraging Patience

Patience is not just about endurance but includes steadfastness in doing good, avoiding sins, and trusting Allah during hardships.

Encouraging patience means that a believer should not only be steadfast themselves but also inspire others to remain firm and hopeful.

This reflects the importance of perseverance and reliance on Allah in times of trial.

3. Promoting Mercy

Mercy involves kindness, compassion, and love for others.

It includes caring for the weak, orphans, the poor, and those in need.

The verse urges believers to create a society where mutual care and compassion prevail.

4. A High Standard of Morality

The verse establishes a deep connection between faith and morality.

A believer is expected to not only follow the righteous path personally but also spread goodness and kindness in society.

5. The Qualities of the People of the Right Hand

These qualities describe those who will be among the "People of the Right Hand," destined for Paradise.

They are the ones who live according to Allah's guidance and inspire others to do the same.

Summary

This verse provides a comprehensive guideline for both individual and social life. A true believer is one who walks on the path of righteousness and inspires others to do the same by promoting patience, mercy, and faith. These qualities ensure success in both this world and the Hereafter.
