The Rights of Parents in Islam: Surah Al-Isra Reflection #وَبِٱلۡوَٰلِدَيۡنِ إِحۡسَٰنًاۚ

 

Introduction:

Surah Al-Isra (17:23-24) delivers a profound reminder about the essence of worship and the value of our parents. These verses beautifully emphasize the exclusive worship of Allah and the unparalleled duty of showing love, respect, and kindness to our parents. As they age, their needs change, and it becomes our responsibility to care for them with the utmost patience and humility. The words "do not say 'uff'" highlight even the smallest form of disrespect being unacceptable. Let these verses inspire us to honor and cherish our parents, offering prayers for them as they nurtured us with love and care.

آية 23:
وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعۡبُدُواْ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ وَبِٱلۡوَٰلِدَيۡنِ إِحۡسَٰنًاۚ إِمَّا يَبۡلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ ٱلۡكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَوۡ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفٍّ وَلَا تَنۡهَرۡهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوۡلٗا كَرِيمٗا.

آية 24:
وَٱخۡفِضۡ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ ٱلذُّلِّ مِنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرۡحَمۡهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا.

ترجمہ :

آیت 23:
"اور تمہارے رب نے فیصلہ کر دیا ہے کہ تم اس کے سوا کسی کی عبادت نہ کرو، اور والدین کے ساتھ حسن سلوک کرو۔ اگر ان میں سے ایک یا دونوں تمہارے پاس بڑھاپے کو پہنچ جائیں تو انہیں 'اف' تک نہ کہو، اور نہ ہی انہیں جھڑکو، بلکہ ان سے نرمی کے ساتھ بات کرو۔"

آیت 24:
"اور ان کے لیے شفقت سے عاجزی کے بازو جھکا دو اور دعا کرو، 'اے میرے رب! ان پر رحم فرما جیسا کہ انہوں نے بچپن میں مجھ پر رحم کیا۔'"

یہ آیات اللہ کی عبادت کے ساتھ والدین کے ساتھ محبت اور عزت کا حکم دیتی ہیں اور ان کے ساتھ حسن سلوک کی اہمیت کو واضح کرتی ہیں۔

Translation :

Verse 23:
"And your Lord has decreed that you do not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], 'uff,' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word."

Verse 24:
"And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, 'My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.'"

This highlights the importance of worshipping Allah alone and being kind and respectful to parents.
