Daughters Once Buried Alive—Now Honored by Islam
English Translation (Surah An-Nahl 58–59)
Verse 58:
And when one of them is given the glad tidings of a daughter, his face becomes darkened (with shame), and he is filled with grief.
Verse 59:
He hides himself from the people because of the shame of the news he has received. (He wonders) should he keep her in humiliation or bury her in the dust? Indeed, evil is their judgment.
📖 Summary
These verses expose the ignorance and emotional cruelty of pre-Islamic Arab culture where the birth of a daughter was considered a disgrace. Men felt shame, anger, and even went as far as burying their daughters alive. Allah condemns this mindset as evil and unjust. Islam honored daughters, giving them rights, dignity, and making their upbringing a path to Jannah.
