Miracles of Prophet Jesus (Isa AS) | Surah Al-Ma'idah By Allah's Permission
Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:110) – English Translation
"And ˹on the Day˺ Allah will say, 'O Jesus, son of Mary! Remember My favor upon you and upon your mother: when I supported you with the Holy Spirit, so that you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and when I taught you the Scripture, wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel; and when you molded from clay the form of a bird—by My permission—and breathed into it, and it became a bird by My permission; and you healed the one born blind and the leper by My permission; and when you brought the dead to life by My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from harming you when you came to them with clear proofs, but those who disbelieved among them said, 'This is nothing but obvious magic.'"
Introduction
Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:110) is one of the most remarkable verses in the Qur'an about Prophet Jesus (ʿĪsā, peace be upon him). In this verse, Allah reminds Prophet Jesus of the many blessings and miracles He granted him. A key message repeated throughout the verse is "by My permission," emphasizing that every miracle occurred only by Allah's will and power.
Explanation
Allah reminds Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) of His countless favors:
He strengthened him with the Holy Spirit (Angel Jibreel/Gabriel).
He spoke to people while still in the cradle and again as an adult.
Allah taught him the Scripture, wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel.
He made a bird from clay, and it became alive by Allah's permission.
He healed the blind and the lepers by Allah's permission.
He brought the dead back to life by Allah's permission.
Allah protected him from the plots of the Children of Israel when they rejected his clear signs.
Despite witnessing these miracles, many unbelievers falsely accused him of practicing magic.
The repeated phrase "by My permission" teaches that all miracles belong to Allah alone. Prophets are honored servants of Allah who perform miracles only through His command.
Description
Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:110 highlights Allah's blessings upon Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) and confirms his status as a noble messenger of Allah. Every miracle mentioned in this verse was performed solely by Allah's permission, reinforcing the Islamic belief in Allah's absolute power and the prophethood of Jesus.
Summary
This verse reminds believers that:
Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) was one of Allah's greatest messengers.
His miracles were signs from Allah, not evidence of independent divine power.
Allah alone is the source of all miracles and all power.
True faith recognizes both the honor of the prophets and the absolute oneness of Allah
