Here is an interpretation of its general meaning in English: 1. **Verses 1-5:** The surah begins with the question of what people are asking each other about – "the great news." This refers to the Day of Resurrection, a central theme that people disagree or doubt about. 2. **Verses 6-16:** God reminds people of His signs in creation as evidence of His power: the Earth as a resting place, the mountains as pegs, creation in pairs, sleep as a form of rest, and the night and day cycle. Additionally, the heavens and the rain that bring abundant growth are clearly signs of God's design. 3. **Verses 17-20:** The surah then shifts to describe the Day of Judgment. On that day, the Trumpet will be blown, and everyone will be raised from their graves. The mountains will crumble, and the Earth will be laid bare. 4. **Verses 21-30:** These verses describe the fate of those who deny the truth. Hell is prepared as a place of punishment for the disbelievers, described with vivid imagery of intense suffering for those who led lives of denial, rejecting accountability. 5. **Verses 31-36:** The surah contrasts this with the rewards awaiting the righteous. Those who feared God and acted righteously will enjoy gardens, grapevines, companions of pure companionship, and peace, free from idle talk and lies. This reward is described as a generous gift from God. 6. **Verses 37-40:** The surah concludes by reminding people of God’s ultimate authority over the heavens and Earth. On the Day of Judgment, no one will be able to speak without His permission, and that day will be a true reckoning. It ends with a warning to those who disbelieve, encouraging them to reflect and prepare for what lies ahead. Surah An-Naba’ serves as a powerful reminder of the reality of resurrection, the consequences of one’s actions, and the mercy and justice of God in both reward and punishment.
