 Surah Al-Kahf (Verses 89–94)

Arabic Text with English Translation

89. ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا
Then he followed another way.

90. حَتَّىٰ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَطْلِعَ الشَّمْسِ وَجَدَهَا تَطْلُعُ عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ لَّمْ نَجْعَلْ لَهُم مِّن دُونِهَا سِتْرًا
Until, when he reached the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had made no shelter against it.

91. كَذَٰلِكَ ۚ وَقَدْ أَحَطْنَا بِمَا لَدَيْهِ خُبْرًا
So it was. And We had encompassed all that he had in knowledge.

92. ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا
Then he followed another way.

93. حَتَّىٰ إِذَا بَلَغَ بَيْنَ السَّدَّيْنِ وَجَدَ مِن دُونِهِمَا قَوْمًا لَّا يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ قَوْلًا
Until, when he reached a place between two mountains, he found a people who could hardly understand speech.

94. قَالُوا يَا ذَا الْقَرْنَيْنِ إِنَّ يَأْجُوجَ وَمَأْجُوجَ مُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَهَلْ نَجْعَلُ لَكَ خَرْجًا عَلَىٰ أَن تَجْعَلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ سَدًّا
They said: O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog corruption in the land. Shall we pay you a tribute so that you build a barrier Gog & Magog us and them?

Summary

Dhul-Qarnayn traveled eastwards, finding people without shelter from the sun.

Later, he reached a valley between two mountains.

There he met a people with a very strange, difficult language.

They begged him to protect them from the destructive tribes of Gog and Magog.
