(3)The Iron Wall of Dhul-Qarnayn & The Imprisonment of Gog & Magog
πΏ Surah Al-Kahf (Verses 95–101)
π Introduction
These verses narrate the most famous part of Dhul-Qarnayn’s story — his encounter with a nation suffering from the corruption of Ya’juj and Ma’juj (Gog & Magog). They requested him to build a barrier. With Allah’s help, Dhul-Qarnayn constructed a mighty iron and copper wall that trapped them until Allah’s appointed time. These verses highlight divine power, the temporary nature of human strength, and the promise of the Last Day.
π Shan-e-Nuzool (Background of Revelation)
When the Jews asked about Dhul-Qarnayn to test Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί, Allah revealed these verses. They not only explained Dhul-Qarnayn’s role as a just ruler but also clarified the story of Ya’juj and Ma’juj, linking it to future events of Qiyamah (the Last Day).
π Who are Ya’juj and Ma’juj (Gog & Magog)?
They are two barbaric tribes, descendants of Adam ΨΉΩΩΩ Ψ§ΩΨ³ΩΨ§Ω .
Known for spreading corruption, bloodshed, and destruction.
They were blocked by Dhul-Qarnayn’s iron barrier.
In Islamic eschatology, they will be released before Qiyamah, causing chaos worldwide.
Prophet ο·Ί described them as a sign of the End Times.
π Translation of Verses 95–101
95 – He (Dhul-Qarnayn) said: “What my Lord has given me is better, but help me with strength, and I will build a strong barrier between you and them.”
96 – “Bring me sheets of iron.” When he had filled up the gap between the two mountains, he said: “Blow (with bellows).” When it became like fire, he said: “Bring me molten copper that I may pour upon it.”
97 – So they (Gog and Magog) were unable to scale it, nor could they dig through it.
98 – Dhul-Qarnayn said: “This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes, He will level it to the ground, and the promise of my Lord is true.”
99 – And on that Day, We shall leave them (Gog & Magog) to surge like waves over one another; and the Trumpet will be blown, and We shall gather them all together.
100 – And We shall present Hell that Day to the disbelievers, plain to view.
101 – Those whose eyes were veiled from My remembrance, and who could not bear to hear (the truth).
π Summary
Dhul-Qarnayn refused wealth but accepted manpower to build the barrier.
He constructed a strong wall of iron and molten copper, impenetrable for Gog & Magog.
He declared it as Allah’s mercy, not his own achievement.
But the barrier will eventually fall when Allah’s promise (End Times) comes.
Gog & Magog will be released, causing mass chaos.
On that Day, the Trumpet will be blown, all people will be gathered, and Hell will be shown clearly to the disbelievers who ignored Allah’s reminders.
