🌿 Introduction

Surah Al-Kahf is the 18th chapter of the Qur’an. Verses 83–88 begin the story of Dhul-Qarnayn, a just and powerful ruler whom Allah granted strength, wisdom, and authority. His journeys show how he ruled with justice — punishing the oppressors and rewarding the believers.

📖 Shan-e-Nuzool (Background of Revelation)

The Quraysh of Makkah, in consultation with the Jews of Madinah, asked the Prophet ï·º three challenging questions to test his Prophethood. One of these questions was about the mysterious great king “Dhul-Qarnayn.” Allah revealed these verses to explain his story, showing that the Prophet ï·º received true knowledge from Allah.

📖 English Translation (Verses 83–88)

Verse 83
They ask you (O Prophet ï·º) about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, “I will recite to you something of his story.”

Verse 84
Indeed, We established him firmly on earth and gave him the means to achieve everything.

Verse 85
So he followed a way.

Verse 86
Until, when he reached the place of the setting sun, he found it as if setting into a dark, muddy spring, and he found a people there. We said: “O Dhul-Qarnayn! Either punish them, or treat them with kindness.”

Verse 87
He said: “Whoever does wrong, we will punish him. Then he will return to his Lord, and He will punish him with a severe punishment.”

Verse 88
“But whoever believes and does good deeds, for him is the best reward, and we will speak to him gently and kindly.”

✨ Summary

People asked the Prophet ï·º about Dhul-Qarnayn, a great ruler of the past.

Allah gave him power, authority, and means to travel across lands.

On his journey westward, he reached the place of sunset and found a nation there.

Allah gave him the choice: to punish or to show kindness.

Dhul-Qarnayn established justice:

Wrongdoers would be punished.

Believers and righteous people would be rewarded and treated kindly.
