Did the Prophet ﷺ Celebrate Mawlid?
📖 Introduction
The birthday of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, commonly known as Mawlid un-Nabi, is observed by many Muslims around the world as a day of remembrance. However, the question remains: Was this practice part of Islam during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, his Companions, or the early generations?
The truth is, the Prophet ﷺ himself never celebrated his birthday, nor did his Companions (رضي الله عنهم). The true way to honor him is by loving him, following his Sunnah, obeying his teachings, and avoiding innovations (Bid’ah) that were never part of Islam.
📌 Summary of Mawlid un-Nabi
Not celebrated in the Prophet’s time or by the Companions, Tabi‘een, or early scholars.
Introduced centuries later (3rd or 4th century Hijri) as an innovation.
True love is shown through following the Sunnah and avoiding Bid’ah.
Islam teaches that every act of worship must be based on Qur’an and Sunnah.
The greatest way to celebrate his life is to practice his teachings daily.
