Translation (Verses 9–16)
Verse 9
Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were among Our wondrous signs?
Verse 10
When the youths took refuge in the cave, they said: “Our Lord, grant us mercy from Yourself and provide for us guidance in our affair.”
Verse 11
So We cast a cover of sleep over their ears in the cave for a number of years.
Verse 12
Then We raised them up again that We might test which of the two groups would more accurately calculate the length of their stay.
Verse 13
We narrate to you their story in truth. Indeed, they were young men who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.
Verse 14
And We strengthened their hearts when they stood up and said: “Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Never will we invoke any god besides Him. For if we did, we would have spoken an enormity.”
Verse 15
“These, our people, have taken gods besides Him. Why do they not bring clear proof concerning them? And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah?”
Verse 16
[The youths said:] “And when you withdraw from them and from what they worship other than Allah, then retreat to the cave. Your Lord will spread His mercy for you and prepare for you ease in your affair.”
